Our delights and desires are part of our unique ‘fingerprint’ in the world so they are key to finding and expressing our authentic nature. 


Not the version of ourselves we became in order to fit in, or keep the peace or feel safe and loved. Those are conditioned versions of ourselves that can feel authentic, but that’s just because we’re so familiar with them! Your authentic self is confident, doesn’t take things personally and knows that you are the prize! You are the gift! You are THE ONE!

Do we have to struggle or is there another way?

I’m tired of struggling.

I know that what I focus on expands, so I definitely don’t want to focus on the things that feel like a struggle to me, but it’s not like I can ignore them either.

New Year! New You! But how?

It’s a simple concept really, as so many profound things are. You look at the problem, frustration, challenge, place you're stuck, etc. through four lenses. They are: 


  • Desire

  • Thoughts 

  • Feelings 

  • Action


The order you use them in isn’t important. The “problem” itself might give you a logical starting place, but you’ll look at it through all four. Which is why it’s so effective. 


As you go through each of the four you start to notice what’s really creating the problem, that way you know how to solve it. 


For example, let's say you want to get a new job. You’re bored with yours and you know you can do better. The “problem” is you’re procrastinating on updating your resume. What’s that about? You kick yourself, spiral into some self-criticism and promise yourself you’ll do it tomorrow. But… you don’t. 


I put “problem” in quotes because the longer I coach and the more I grow personally the more I know that the things that feel like problems are actually like our wise self raisting a red flag and saying, “Hey, Brenda, there’s something for you to look at!” So I’m beginning to love my problems. 


Back to the “problem.” When we have a problem about not taking action or the action we’re taking isn’t working I usually start with desire, then move to thoughts. Either we don’t really have a desire for it, it’s someone else's desire that they want us to get onboard with, but we’re not, or we’ve outgrown one of our desires and haven’t realized it. To keep it simple, let's say our hero does truly and sincerely want a new job. Something she can sink her teeth into, grow and feel accomplished in. Great. Desire is in alignment. 


Now let’s go to our hero's thoughts. In everyone I’ve coached, in every situation, including a bunch of my own, our if desire is in alignment, our thoughts are the culprit. This is where imposter syndrome comes from. It’s where our limiting beliefs come from. Look at your thoughts and you’ll find at least one if not a cluster of thoughts like, “I don’t deserve it.” “I’m not good enough.” “I’m probably not qualified for the kind of job I really want.” 


Once those thoughts are dismantled, the action gets easier. (I give you tools for dismantling thoughts in the digital program.)


Feelings. What role do they play? On the difficult side they belly up to those critical and shaming thoughts and you feel discouraged and hopeless. But the wonderful news is, you can also use your feelings as an ally. Instead of feeling discouraged and hopeless, what would help you get excited about updating your resume? The feelings of accomplishment, possibility, the expectation of something great. You can choose to focus on those empowering thoughts and that will get your butt at the computer to update that resume! 


Action then takes care of itself because your desires, thoughts and feelings are congruent or in alignment. Your action becomes congruent and in alignment. 


Problem solved!

There are also feelings that go right along with those feelings that make them feel even more impossible to overcome. 


There’s a lot of busy-ness, overwhelm, procrastination, and other obstacles when it comes to taking action. 


And then we circle back to desires. What the heck do I want and if I dare to want it, how do I believe I deserve to have it? 


You can see how this common problem touches on all four of these components, desire, action, thoughts and feelings. 


I experienced it in my own life. And as I coached myself and lots of clients through their problems and challenges I came up with a process that includes all four. When we get our desires, actions, thoughts and feelings in alignment, we’re unstoppable!

That’s how I feel after taking a week off and showering myself in self-care and self-love! It was amazing!

That’s the life I choose. The life where I get to use my energy for the projects, creations and self-love I was created for. 


Does that mean I’m selfish? I don’t think so. 


I give and I give generously. I just do it out of the overflow instead of obligation or to make someone else happy. I give and do for others because I am moved to do it.

Do You Need a Break?

I did! And I’m taking it! 


I’m on vacation this week! I’ve chosen a lovely staycation, since I’ve recently moved to paradise, I didn’t want to leave! 


What I did want was: 

  • A break from social media

  • A break from my typical routine

  • Extended time for relaxing by the pool, or at the beach, with a good book

  • Time to dream about what’s important to me

  • Time to dream about what I want my future to look like

  • Time to do nothing


What about you? Even though I may not respond until next week, I’d love to know what you want? It might be some down time, it might be to start a project that is meaningful to you, it might be to soak in a long hot bath.

What if procrastination wasn’t a thing?

So many of us criticize ourselves for procrastinating. 


Think of that last thing you procrastinated on. OK, now…


Think about the last thing you did where there was no procrastination at all. You dove in. 


You got it done. You felt energized. You might have even lost track of time. 


Why is that? 


Desire. 


Turns out, desire is more complicated than it sounds. 


That thing you did where you felt energized and got it done without hesitancy or procrastination… Whether it was baking a cake or starting a business, had the quality of ease (different from easy. You probably worked hard to get it done, but it had the energy of flow and ease.) That was a thing that you were in alignment with. 


When we are in alignment our desires, thoughts, feelings and actions are all in-sync. Boom. It’s done. 


When we have “a thing” that doesn’t flow like that, you’re putting it off, or can’t seem to make yourself do the things you know need to be done, that’s when you know something is out of alignment. 


It’s one of two things:

  1. You don’t really have the desire. You might think you should or a family member, friend or boss may thinks you should, but you don’t really want to. So… action falls apart. You can’t stay motivated, you procrastinate, “forget” about it, all sorts of things get in the way. 

  2. You really do have the desire, but you’ve got thoughts and feelings that sabotage your action, like the old, “not good enough” though, or “I don’t have the time/money.” “It’s too late.” “Who do I think I am?”


What do you do about these two… I coach people on this all the time. These two dynamics around desire wreak lots of havoc in our lives.

Reclaiming You!

It’s time. 


It feels like when a caterpillar comes out of its cocoon. 


As… a butterfly! 


A totally new being. 


That’s how this summer feels to me. 


Or… let me be more accurate, it feels like it has the POSSIBILITY of being something totally new.


It’s always a choice. 


Do we emerge from a year-and-a-half of uninvited, dramatic change that affected every aspect of our lives… the same as we were? 


Or do we accept the invitation to become something new? 


I’m choosing to become a new version of myself. 


I don’t want to “get back to normal.” 


I want to reclaim me. The newest version of myself that is more compassionate, trusting, abundant and tuned into my inner truth. The truth that transcends the outer world of phenomena and circumstance. 


I want to cultivate more inner trust. A deeper inner connection. Increased confidence to speak up for myself even when it’s hard. An increased ability to speak up for others even if it’s not popular. 


And my desires? My mission in life? Those dreams and visions just get bigger and bigger. I feel like I’m on the precipice of a huge expansion. And I’m ready!

Do You Ever Ignore Your Desires?

Desire. 


The very word can bring on anxiety! 


Do you know what you desire? 


Do you ever ignore your desires, or worse yet, shame them? 


I’m sure you have and probably someone else has shamed you for your desires or ignored you when you asked for what you desired. 


We’ve heard too often, “who do you think you are?” 


I will tell you who you are.


You are a unique divine expression. Boom! 💥


Every desire you have has been put there by divine intelligence to support you in being your unique divine expression, instead of the person that your family or culture might have wanted you to be.


It’s time for judgment to be over. 


It’s time for shame to be over. 


The second-guessing is over.


Be the unique divine expression that you are. There is only one of you. If you don’t be you, no one will. The gift of you will be lost to the universe. 


The journey begins with desire.
