How to use your mindset to crush your fitness, or any other, goal

Did you know that mindset is 90% of your ability to be successful in your fitness goals? 


The same is true about just about any goal you have. 


Mindset is your greatest cheerleader or enemy. 


I had a spin class experience that was horrific! I was crying most of the way through the class! I wasn’t in physical pain, I was in emotional pain. I was berating myself for not having a good ride. Mind you… I had missed spin class for a month because of traveling, but that didn’t matter. As soon as I was riding slower than I expected and not getting the miles that I wanted… Boom! Brenda The Terrible came out and beat me up the rest of the ride. 


Compare that to my ride this week. I hurt my foot so I wasn’t sure I could even ride my bike, but I wanted to try. Encouraging Brenda told me to show up, get my spin shoes on and see what happens. If I couldn’t ride, that was OK. If I couldn’t “keep up” with the instructor, that was OK. I just needed to show up and see what happened. 


I got to class, got into my shoes and got on my bike. I couldn’t keep up. I couldn’t ride “out of the saddle” (spin-talk for pedaling standing up instead of on the bike seat) but… I rode. I loved being with the people, the music and inspiration of the instructor. It was a total win! 


It made me think of that ride last summer and what a disaster it was. The funny thing is my ride this week was worse, from a performance standpoint, but from a mindset standpoint, it was 100% better! 


My mindset changed my experience. 


Your mindset changes your experience every day in everything you do.

Are we in a desire epidemic?

What do you desire? 


Do you know? 


Does the question excite you with possibilities or deflate you and leave you flat?


What’s your relationship with desire? 


One of the effects of the pandemic was that it flattened our desires. 


Even the little things like my favorite bath gel or favorite foods were unavailable because of supply chain issues. You might not even think of food or your favorite bath gel as a “desire” but I do. Hell, toilet paper became a desire that we couldn’t get!


Our desires come big and small. And paying attention to the small ones is really powerful. Typically, we can respond to those desires quickly and bring them into our lives. Adding to our confidence to pursue bigger desires.


But not during the pandemic.


We definitely had to let go of most of the big things we tend to think about with the word “desire,” like travel, a new car, shopping for a new wardrobe or going on a retreat. 


Everything stopped. 


Desires stopped. 


Then all we wanted was to “get back to normal” and many of us have. Or at least a new version of “normal.” 


But what about those desires? Did they get left behind? 


Did you stop thinking about your favorite shower gel and were just grateful to find shower gel on the shelf? I’m all about gratitude, but did we lose our connection to our desires along the way? 


My question today is, what do you desire? Big or small. 


It may take a moment. Please, take it. Get a cup or tea or favorite cocktail and let yourself imagine… what would feel good? What would bring beauty into your life? Do you want adventure? Do you want solitude? What do you desire?

What do you believe that isn’t true?

We all have beliefs that aren’t true. 


“Being fearful about money keeps me from being frivolous and careless with money.”


“I’m not good enough.”


“Taking risks is unsafe.” 


“Love hurts.”


Each of these is untrue yet many of us believe them. Without question. 


We all hold beliefs deep in our subconscious that are not true. 


Those untrue beliefs limit us and cause us pain and suffering.


Then why do we hold onto them?  


First off, we might not know the belief is there. 


If it’s something passed onto us from our family, religion or culture most of us take on the belief because everyone around us believes it. We might not even believe it consciously, but because we grew up around it, we have a deep, subconscious belief that is in opposition to our conscious belief. 


Which is why it’s so valuable to have a coach who can work through the conscious and subconscious aspects of your beliefs. A coach who can help you release the untrue beliefs and claim the conscious beliefs that serves you. 


I have clients with untrue beliefs about romantic relationships. Those beliefs keep them trapped in emotionally abusive relationships or in relationships that keep them from expressing their authentic self. 


In coaching they learn how to release the untrue belief and begin to claim their right to healthy, authentic relationships.


I have clients who have untrue beliefs about money. Beliefs that money is hard to make, that it’s easy to lose, that people want to cheat you, the government wants to take it all, they aren’t worthy of money, good with money… There are a lot of untrue beliefs about money! 


In coaching they learn how to release those beliefs and claim what is true, abundance is all around us. You are worthy of the wealth you desire. You are worthy of the abundance you desire. Abundance is your natural state.

How Fear Can Keep You Trapped

Fear can be tricky. 


If you’re afraid of putting your hand on a hot stove… GREAT! Keep that fear. 


More often than not, fear keeps us trapped in self-judgment and stress!  


In today’s episode of Uncover and Elevate, I’ll break-down how fear keeps us trapped in habits and thoughts that limit our lives. 


I’ll also talk about how fear, initially, is benevolent. It’s there to help. But what it wants to help us with may not be obvious.


I’ll also give you some tools for how to break through fear, find the real issue that the fear was trying to protect you from and get out of limitation and feeling trapped.

What Delights You?

When was the last time you thought about what would delight you? 


Delight! 


What’s the first thing that comes up for you? 


Do you instantly think of something that would delight you? 


Or do you think, “I don’t have time to think about what delights me!” 


It’s a powerful question. Here’s how I use it in a very practical way…


I am on a deadline to get this blog out. Fine. Writing this blog and getting it on Instagram, emailed out to everyone on my email list and putting on the blog section of my website is on my “To-Do” list. 


Now I’m going to add the question, “what can I do that will feel delightful while I do these tasks to get this blog to you?”


A simple answer came to me. Instead of sitting at my desk to get it all done, I’ll take my laptop and sit on my front porch so I can be outside, see all the hummingbirds flying around, and enjoy the sunshine. 


BAM! Suddenly the tasks to get my blog out are more… delightful! 


How would your day feel different if you found three things that you need to do and simply added a little delight to them? 


Delight has become part of my self-care routine. I frequently ask myself, “how can I make this delightful?” Suddenly even a boring To-Do list is more interesting and fun. When we invite delight into the mundane aspects of life, we’ve elevated our experience. 


Tell me, what will you do to make something delightful today? 


That’s what self-care looks like. That’s what self-love looks like. Taking that extra moment to bring more delight into your life.

What if YOU are Your True Love?

What if the love you give to yourself is the best love you’ll ever have?


Most of us would be in trouble! 


We want someone else to make us feel loved, adored, special, beautiful, safe, care-for and all the other good stuff we want from those who love us. 


But what if… 


You loved yourself as fiercely. 


You adored yourself? 


What if you looked in the mirror and told yourself how beautiful you are… and how good your butt looks in those jeans! 


What if you made yourself feel safe, cared-for and all the other good stuff? 


The truth is you are the best Valentine you could ever give yourself. 


When we stop wanting others to give us the love we want to feel, we free ourselves from the NEED of love and instead, receive the love we get from others in JOY. 


We don’t need them to feel loved. To feel safe. To feel beautiful or adored. 


We already feel it because we gave it to ourselves. . 


How does that sound to you?

Does your inner-critic need a vacation?

I love this picture of me because it’s what I look like when my inner-critic has taken a vacation and I am my “liberated” self! 


I’m fun, I laugh, I make others laugh, I love my body, I love connecting with others. I can rest or be ready to sweat my guts out in spin class. 


It’s me without the baggage of the criticisms and judgments that my inner mean-girl can throw at me. 


Another way to put it is… I feel worthy of living the life I love. Period. No need for inner judgments or criticisms. They do not serve me, even though they tell me they are “only here to help.” 


When we feel deeply worthy, it’s a feeling of worthiness that is not earned or “worked for.” It’s a birthright. You simply ARE worthy whether you feel like it or not. Whether you’ve ever been told you are, or not. You ARE.

Do you want to feel Worthy? I’ll show you how!

Almost every client I have needs to be coached on feeling worthy. 


Why is feeling worthy so hard? 


We have tons of cultural conditioning AGAINST feeling worthy! 


Gender, skin color, body shape, sexual orientation, education, financial status, ethnicity and heritage… you name it, you’ve probably been told that who and what you are is flawed or “not good enough” in some way. 


You’ve probably heard it your whole life. 


That’s why it’s hard. 


To FEEL worthy you have to reprogram all of those negative messages you received! 


I’ve collected my best tools to help you. This is an issue that is near and dear to me because I have struggled with it so profoundly!

When challenging situations come at us, our mind will automatically compare them against those negative messages and say, “Yep. You’re not good enough. That’s why this is happening.” Or, “It’s because you’re __________ (fill in the blank for gender, race, heritage, sexual orientation, financial status, etc.)” The mind delivers the “evidence” to support that programming that your aren’t good enough in some way. 


The good news is… the mind isn’t always right! 


We need the tools to reprogram those messages so that we can return to our true nature of WORTHINESS without condition! You are worthy because you are. 


You don’t need to perform or be better than you are right now. Worthiness is the truth of who you are.
